Impervious Surface Analysis
Runoff from impervious surfaces in urban areas is thought to be one of the main causes of surface water pollution in the United States. This is an analysis of Elementary Schools in Pierce County that compares geographic location to impervious surface cover. The above map shows feeder zones to elementary schools within Pierce County created using Theissen Polygons.
Below, Elementary schools are classified as either urban or non-urban.
GIS Tools and Methods:
-Theissen polygons -Data classification
-Dissolve, intersect, spatial join -Field calculator
-Polygon to Point conversion -Raster extraction
-Raster dataset to vector feature conversion
